Things fall apart in Bingu’s party, top official quits

Tuesday, July 26th, 2011 | Post By

Things fall apart in Bingu's party, top official quits, -100% based on 1 rating

MZUZU (Malawi Democrat) –Hardly a day passes without hearing announcements of officials resigning from the once mighty Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) quitting the party and hardly a day passes without the party’s spin doctors preaching their voices that the party is strong as ever.

On Tuesday July 26 it was the turn of Northern Region Treasurer Levant Mfune throwing in the towel. On Monday July 25, it was deputy district governor John Godwin Mvula and his entire committee defected to Vice-President Joyce Banda’s yet-to-be-registered People’s Party (PP).

Mfune announced his resignation during a press conference held in the presence of PDM’s Secretary General Harry Mkandawire and other officials in Mzuzu.

He said with or without the July 20 demonstrations; he could have left the party anyway because of dictatorial tendencies in Wa Mutharika’s party and its loss of popularity.

Mfune said the July 20; demonstrations clearly showed that the party does not care about its membership and officials.

“Instead of showing concern about my safety and my family, the party was concerned about the conditions of the vehicle. This clearly shows lack of welfare at the deepest level,” he said.

Mfune blamed the DPP led government on the way it handled the demonstrations saying it should be held responsible for whatever happened.

But government spokesman Mr Simon Vuwa Kaunda told MBC that Mfune was a nonentity and a liability to the party and that despite the resignations the party is strong as ever.

Mfune, a renowned Tax Consultant and Agro-Dealer even donated MK 568,270.88 being personal money he used to service the party’s four vehicles.

“I will not claim that money. I have sacrificed my life and my businesses. I want to die a natural death. I have had enough and I want peace of mind,” said a visibly angry Mfune.

He said he will not join another party saying it is too early.

The development comes after four DPP MPs from Southern Region warned that dictatorial tendencies threaten Malawi ruling party’s future.

The four—Peter Nowa (Mulanje Pasani Constituency), Jeffrey Ntelemuka (Blantyre City South East Constituency), Wells Gamah (Blantyre West Constituency) and Moses Kunkuyu (Blantyre City South Constituency)—expressed their fears through The Nation newspaper.

They argued DPP’s loss of popularity would severely affect its performance in the 2014 parliamentary elections.

But party spokesperson Dr Hetherwick Ntaba disputed the claim that the party is losing popularity.

VUWA AND NTABA: Living a lie that DPP remains popural

Two weeks ago, DPP expelled Blantyre Rural East MP Henry Phoya alongside outspoken Thyolo Thava MP Lifred Nawena, Mzimba South MP Paul Shaba and Zomba Changalume MP Grace Maseko for speaking against the infamous Injunctions Bill.

    It is not yet over.
Actually, the plan is that on the sitting in parliament, Bingu should have a minority government in the house.
The exodus is not yet over. Inu ma MP enanu, ngati mukufuna kuzansakhidwanso, tulukani poyera ndi kusiyana nacho chigawenga chikufuna kupha tonsefe. He said he is going to smoke us out. Do you want to be associated with crime? Simuzalira a ICC atakugwirani inu?
Come out now, ditch DPP, and you will see.
    Bingu will never reach 2014.

ndipo, remaining in DPP is a political suicide. Of course getting out now might not necessarily earn them votes in 14 but it will definitely help them hold on to a little respect they might have remaining among the people.

Those who have done well in their constutions should make up their mind to move on now or too late. I wrote once that they are waiting for the time to come. It came earl. Bingu will be left with two or his family. If I was him I could annonced my resignation. At the end of the day he will look stupid. And he said he is not stupid and will never be. But that is what he is going to be. People knows who are good MPs. So watch it out. We all want the best for our country so let us build it with good hospitals, medicines for every one. Qualifield doctors, food, good schools just like Bandas time.Is that not good? why paying tax and people are dying for simple illness? What has gone wrong for a country which was going well during Banda? How can this corruption come and be a tradition? Why do we admire Europe when we can do it in our country if some people were not stealing so much and deposite in rich countries? Dont they know they are making Europe more richer by having money in the Bank and let their citizens get loans when it is very difficult for us to take a loan to start a business? Muntharikaz a family of education has failled to maintain Malawi economy? HOW? It is because of not listening to others. Doc killer Ntaba and Vuwa. Start packing your lies are finished.

Could Malawi democrat create a special website where creative minds can contribute to a movie script starring these three characters; Evil Bingu, Stupid Bald-headed Ntaba, Silly Potbellied, fat cheeked Vuwa. Tikhoza kupanga chi comedy choopsatu. But with Satanic Bingu in it it would not help being a Horror as well.
