LILONGWE (Malawi Democrat) –Malawi government had clarified that the First Lady Callista Mutharika has not been appointed the country’s vice president.
But government spokesperson Patricia Kaliati, said though she did not see the website handled by Ministry of Information, the First Lady isn’t the Vice President of the Republic of Malawi.
“I have not seen the website myself but I can say that according to government the First Lady Her Excellency Madam Callista Mutharika is National Coordinator of Maternal, Infant and Child Health and HIV/Nutrition/Malaria and Tuberculosis,†said Kaliati.
The Information Minister said the webmaster of the official government website may have made an error.
She however said if there was popular view to appoint the First Lady to the position of Vice President because of her “good job†government would consider that.
Since becoming First lady, Callista has taken a number of Vice President Joyce Banda’s role.
First Lady receives a monthly sum of over $7,000 for doing charity work as a coordinator of safe motherhood.
